Doin’ It!

Welcome

We are delighted that you’ve decided to join us to spread AYA’s Black Love Day (BLD) celebration. The rightous fear, sickness and death occassioned by the “plan-demic” instructs us not to gather physically in one place in Atlanta, GA as we have for the last 8 years. Instead of folding, or shrinking, we’re expanding. With your help, we’ll celebrate Black Love on a scale grander than ever. COVID and its handlers can’t stop Black Love. It’s what has allowed us to live through the invasion of our home-land, captivity, Jim-Crow, the crack epidemic and more. Active Black Love stimulates and boots our immune response. While some of us choose to remain physically distant, Baba Akinyele & Mama Aminata Umoja (Right) - the first BLD-WHB Revolutionary Long Love award recipients - remind us to never be socially distant!
The Umojas
Black Love is not an abstraction, it’s demonstrated action.

This service is designed for families who want their child to flourish along with their peers in the classroom or home school environment.  Your child will be provided with personalized instruction designed to meet her/his specific academic needs as well as expectations of the family.  These services can range from homework support to strengthening performance in specific academic areas. There is also the option for the instructor to maintain contact with the classroom teacher in order to provide consistent academic support to the child. The lessons will be interactive in order to engage the child and encourage a love for learning.  Small group instruction is also available.

If you know AYA, then you know we are all about that Warrior-Healer- Builder mind-set and skill-set. So it is natural that we’re lifting love that makes us better warriors, healers, and builders for and with our families and our community. On the other hand, promoting escaptist fantasy-love is an invitation for you and me to deny the oppressive reality that we must change for real love to grow, and grow strong. Denial leads to delusion, further bondage, and death. AYA’s BLD celebration lifts love that leads to life and that strengthens us to fight, heal and build -- love that nurtures a community that can and will nurture your love, our children and our people. We celebrate male/female couple love. We celebrate ancestral love. We celebrate community love. Black love is black power and black wealth. Let’s use it to strengthen us to live strong, to remove those who oppress us, and to help us become a sovereign people and return ourselves to our traditional greatness.

In reality, AYA’s tools, approaches and programs are designed to get us through “trouble, and to heal the wounds of the MAAFA Afrikan captivity and continued oppression. We’re proud to say that we have helped thousands over these 22 years. Unfortunately, we’ve not created adequate ways to gather those thousands into a supportive and continual educational and productive community Until now!
Warrior, Healer, Builder -Love
Mama Marimba Ani & Baba Oshiyemi Adelabu
Determined to counter Western hedonism and their pimp -Valentine, we’ve often not created a safe welcoming place for intimate sexual love. Some of us have become uncomfortable to even talk about it. It’s as if we’ve wrapped white puritanical values in Kinte cloth. Somebody had to get busy for us to be here! Doing so has left our young adults and people of all ages prey to Valentine’s invitation to a night and an expression of love that helps them escape the day-to- day reality of our existence. The opportunity is for us to promote love - intimate and otherwise - that strengthens us to change our day-to-day existence. From the beginning, AYA’s Black Love Day celebration has sought to change this. Please, let’s encourage new love - hot, fresh, silly, invincible - even for those of us with gray hair who are starting over. If we don’t guide this love, someone else will. Let’s get more comfortable talking about love and making love and relationsips that are complementary- as Baba Baruti and Mama Yaa would say.

Honorees - around the globe -
This year we’re reconizing the love of those we’ve honored over the past nine years. Fortunately, they are still with us and their love - for each other, and/or our community - is stronger than ever. Change always presents opportunity. This time we want you to choose the honorees by lifting up the Black love that has inspried you. 1. As you are dinning with your loved one, please call up and talk about the couple whose love inspires your love for each other and for servicing our community. 2. Also lift up a living example of warrior- healer-builder love to the Black community. 3. Finally, lift up an ancestor who inspires and guides your love.
