Family, Our community and the world has been beset by what we know as COVID-19 - a novel coronavirus and the various governmental responses. Life as we know it has been upended. On Tuesday, March 24 and Monday, March 30th, AYA Educational Insitute will announce a multi-pronged response to facilitate our community succeeding during these tough times. We call it NGOLO (energy, power) In a two-hour town hall meeting like atmosphere, we’ll detail our response and highlight Thursday and Saturday schedules for FREE on-going training with the following foci: • What is the virus? How do we defeat it - in ways that build our families and community? • How do we become the “calvary” instead of waiting on and surrendering to big-pharma? • How do we activate our melanin even more to support our already powerful immune response? • Free AYA classes to support for middle and high-school students for new home-schoolers • Free classes to help parents who have become new teachers • Free classes to help parents evaluate and use online teaching / learning resources • Countering the harm of “social-distancing”(SD) with Authentic Emotional Connection (AEC). While SD policies are proving effective to help reduce the transmission of Covid-19, SD also creates or exacerbates personal and familial alienation, fear, inter-personal conflict, and injected oppression • Countering fears - current and anticipated overt and subtle oppression raised higher by this crisis

What is the virus? How do we defeat it - in ways that build our families and community? How do we become the “Calvary” instead of waiting on and surrendering to big-pharma? There are many websites and videos that tell how COVID-19 works and how it’s the similar and different from the other common flu or other corona viruses like SARS, MERS, etc. Unfortunately, most descriptions surrender us to big phrama and engenerder powerlessness because they ignore or minimize the power of our immune response in own bodies. Even though 94K out of 303K have recovered and developed antibodies to COVID-19, officials coaching us on stopping transmission are mum on encouraging us or coaching us on how to stimulate our own immune system against this virus. While officials may claim it’s “out of an abundance of caution,” that they minimize or omit the parallel strategy of strengthening our own immune systems, they are developing a “waiting for the calvary” mentality. This exacerbates a sense of dependency on a medical and public health industry that has failed Black people too many times including during the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918. This senses of dependency doesn’t serve our community during, nor after this crisis.We’ll look at ways to put us becoming the calvary FRONT AND CENTER.

Feeding our Blackness! Officials are quick to quash the myth that “Black people can’t get the virus,” or that our “melanin prevents us from getting the virus.” It’s true. Black people can, have and will get infected by the COVID-19 virus. Cases are growing in Africa as you read this. What’s not true, is that our melanin makes no difference. Melanin is a power component of our immune system, and it can help us DEFEAT the virus. No! The T-Shirt alone will not do it! You need to learn the science and biology of melanin and how it can aid your defense system against this virus. You need to learn how to feed your melanin - how to eat well and how to support rather than counter its benefits to your body and particularly to your lungs and immune system. That’s excatly what you’ll learn in our Feeding Our Blackness (FOB) classes. Now, our Blackness is not only about melanin, it’s also social and cultural. To support that, attend our Circle of Culture Classes that are part of our Thursday and Saturday Authentic Emotional Connection (AEC) sessions. • Thursdays 8-9:30 PM Eastern • Saturdays 1:30-3:00 PM Eastern

Educational Support! AYA Educational Institute has been educating Black youth for 22 years. For 15 years, since 2005, we have been teaching using various online platforms supporting home-school families. Given the school closings, many are rushing to fashion a home-school educational program. AYA’s students (middle and high-school) haven’t missed a school day. And our graduates who are in college now are volunterring to support others. AYA is also opening 3 of our regular classes to families for FREE. Therefore AYA has created Authentic Emotional & Cultural Connection (AECC) online sessions which feature tools from our Warrior-Healer-Builder leadership and personal development series including: • Feelings as Messengers (FAM) • The River of Touches (FLOW) • Storytelling From The Inside-Out (SIO) • Family Stories - Healing Alienation and Broken Stories (HABS) • The Circle of Culture: The 6-R’s: Remember, Resistance, etc. Times: • Saturdays 1:30-3:00 PM Eastern
