| When the Barganche chased Mamar from their village, he threw the
stick behind him.
The stick became a thick forest that no one could pass through.
But the Barganche are brave, courageous people. They were able to
cut the trees down and find a way out of the forest.
Before the Barganche could reach him, Mamar threw the egg behind
him and the egg became a wide, raging river. The Barganche were able
to swim across the river and continued to chase Mamar. When they
came close to Mamar once more, he threw down the stone, and a
majestic chain of mountains arose on that spot.
Only then were the Barganche stopped and Mamar was able to return
safely home to Gao. Since then, Mamar has always listened to his
mother and what I advised him to do.
You see, I had warned Mamar not to attack this village but he
didn’t listen. Since then Mamar understood that he has to rely upon
the spiritual power of our people to become a good Emperor. And this
way of thinking is still prevailing in Africa today.
