Sankofa Math helps us to heal the “disconnect” born of mis-education and oppression. It helps us go back and fetch the math knowledge of our ancestors and renew their tradition of excellence in applications for today. Sankofa Math is a method of teaching mathematics that accounts for ways students and their families have been alienated from mathematics. Math started with us, and that’s how we start Sankofa Math. We put identity, context, community and group mission into everything from multiplication to Geometry.

Most teaching of English succeeds in teach our children to fear writing and speaking. They also teach us to revere European culture and European people. Sankofa WORD! helps students enjoy writing, remember the needed grammar rules and to speak with confidence.

We were the first on this earth to write or speak! We teach our students this heritage and allow them to drink from this well of deep thought and profound creativity. We also teach reading comprehension techniques.
