Students of all ages are all smiles as they transform their visions into printed and web realities. They learn the foundations of photography - light, color, contrast, composition, camera parts, camera use, film, etc. They are taught to use these elements to become effective story-tellers or Light Writers.” They are introduced to works of local and national photographers of African decent.

They are also exposed to the the world of digital photography, the computerized “darkroom,” and they learn how to publish photographs on the World Wide Web.

All camp students use the camera to

1. stimulate mathematical awareness and skill and their seeing math and science in our everyday environments

2. stimulate oral and written communications skills (reading, writing, speaking and singing)

3. better appreciate and re-present African and African American past and culture
